I found this video that is extensively discussed by commentators. The video's title is "Insurance Company Rules". Watch this as I discuss the current health care system of the United States.US is the biggest spender when it comes to health care. It currently use 16% of the GDP. In 2007, the U.S. spent a little around $2.26 trillion on health care or $7,439 per person basis.
United States is currently the only wealthy country in the world that does not have a Universal Health Care System. Statistics shows that around 84% of citizens have acquired health insurance either through their employer (60%), purchased individually (9%), or provided by government programs (27%). But it is also said that in 2006, 47 million Americans do not have health insurance (16%).
World Health Organization in a study done in 2000 placed the United Stated health care system first for responsiveness and expenditure. However, it ranked only 37th in overall performance and just 72nd by overall level of health. The study included 191 nations. Not a bad ranking, but considering the amount the government is spending every year is an alarming one. Highest spending country for health care is only 72nd on overall health care system. We got a problem here.
United States is ranked 41st in the world for having the lowest infant mortality rate. It ranked 45th for highest total life expectancy in the whole world. Perhaps a health care revamp is really needed.
