For many years, science have grown tremendously to the extent of discovering everything, from the smallest to the biggest factors of life. Although science itself have not found the initial source of life, it nevertheless discovered facts about life that people thousands of years ago have never imagined. Phenomenal breakthroughs have enabled man to produce products that increase a person's lifespan. But by looking at it, science itself it the main reason why we have the need to increase our lifespan, because they are the reason why in the first life expectancy deceased. By modern technology, cars and factories producing pollutants caused multiple diseases that decreases a person's life. To answer this, man developed the so called Preimplantation Genetic Diagnostic or commonly known as PGD.
PGD is a scientific process involved in fertilization and pregnancy that carefully selects normal and healthy genetic materials from a specific person to be transferred to a cell, thus producing a perfectly healthy offspring. This process, though not directly, will pave the way for the erasure of the so called heredity.
Science explains that even how well you planned your family, how healthy you are outside, you cannot deny the fact that your children have the possibility to inherit any genetic disorder from you. And this is the aim of PGD, to eliminate any abnormal genetic material that is bound to be transferred to your child.
The first PGD baby was born in 1990. And as of the moment, there are only 200 births worldwide that incorporated the use of PGD. It's very expensive, making it impossible for ordinary families to afford the procedure. Notable countries where PGD was noted to be used extensively are United States, United Kingdom, Japan and parts of western Europe and selected parts in Asia.
This particular procedure raised eyebrows from moralists all around the globe. According to them, it's against the law of God to manipulate lives. You have to accept whatever comes out of your body. And the fact that this process is also called selective breeding where you will be able to choose what gender of child you can have, opposes the idea of natural balance, especially in Muslim countries where a son is most favored than a daughter.
It is therefore not easy to engage in this process, and further developments are still being conducted. But for now, let us just keep ourselves healthy so our child will not suffer from whatever inheritance they will get from us.
