IN the turning of the century, we have witnessed a lot of changes, a lot of new things and innovations brought about by man's discovery of science and technology. We have been presented with a lot of NEW and USEFUL things that aims to make living easy. It aims to make life easier, and perhaps, shorter. Recent studies shows that in the past 100 years, the life span of a person lowered. In the 1900's, disregarding the wars that happened, withouth any accident, life expectancy around the world is still 85 yrs old for a male and a whopping 95 yrs old for a female.
After the World War II, and after all the chemicals spread into the air by bombs and smokes brought by the war, life expectancy in the northern hemisphere decreased by 10, making males expected to live for like 75 and females at 85 years old. While people in the southern hemisphere stayed at the previous life expectancy rate, except for Japan who was exposed in total chemical chaos right after the war due to atomic radiations.
In 2005, these figures vaguely dropped. And the Asian market seemed to be making a fast downfall. According to LIFE Magazine, souther living has faced tremendous down rate in their life expectancy, with China in the front line. From the 85:95 ration of male to female in 1945, it has shrunk to merely 65:75 while northern living promised the same rate. This is mainly attributed to the pollution brought by the booming economy. Though the Chinese government if doing its best to lower and exterminate pollution in their vast land, it will take a few more years before their air is once again breathable. This event lead to many country's hesitation if they will still send their sports delegation to the upcoming Olympics, fearing that the Chinese air will be of danger to their players.
However, these cases are isolated. There are still places that are pollution free and places that has higher life expectancy rate than their neighbors. LIFE suggested that one should avoid places with a lot of cars and factories. But by that sole description, it makes it hard to look for a place like that. They also said that living a healthy life means sacrifices. You have to go a little away from the metros, eat less of life shortening foods, and you have to stop all of your bad habits. Well, makes sense to me.
