In many parts of the world, mosquitoes is one of the many environmental problems and one of the major caused of death. In Africa particularly, mosquitoes are said to contribute 20% of the continent's death average annually. While in some parts of Asia, mosquitoes add a considerable threat to people. One of the many diseases that people gain from mosquito bites is the deadly malaria. It is caused mainly by female mosquitoes. Malaria is said to kill about 1-3 million of people each year. The affected people are mostly young ones from Africa. Malaria as of the moment do not have a permanent cure or vaccine but its effect can be prevented or slowed. Continuous medication is impossible for people living in poor areas because of its high price and is too much expensive for them to afford.
Another disease caused by mosquitoes that is widespread mostly in Asia and the Americas is the Dengue Fever. It is caused by mosquito bites that nests on stagnant waters where they brood their young.
Because of this, nations affected by these diseases, especially the poor areas, created remedies that will help them lessen or even eradicate the threat of these deadly insects. In Asia, drinking apple cider vinegar is said to help repel mosquitoes but this has not yet been proven. In the Philippines, the extract of mahogany and ipil-ipil barks is used as insect repellants. This method is already undergoing research and development, and the materials used are proven to repel insects. Some people also plant oregano and ginger herbs in their backyards because the scent from these plants is know to send the mosquitoes away.
But for me, the best remedy we can ever have is by keeping our environment clean. Mosquitoes nests in stagnant waters. They brood in places where they are not frequently disturbed. If you are just cleaning your backyards, every corner of your house, mosquitoes will have no place to stay. Also see to it that you do not have any containers or open water tanks where these mosquitoes can lay their eggs.
It's all in the matter of keeping your environment clean. The cheapest and most effective way of cure will always be prevention.
