'Is Watching Television Bad For Kids?'

Research on children watching television have shown that for every hour a day preschoolers watch television, the risk of them developing Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) increases by some 10%. These findings seems to be consistent with previous research which suggested that watching too much television can shorten attention spans. These researchers believe that this occurs because television overstimulate and, possibly, permanently re-wire the brain, especially those of young children.

However, just like everything with ADHD, nothing is etched in concrete as yet. In fact, not every scientists believe this "television watching" theory as a cause of ADHD. For instance, a recent two-year study conducted by Texas Tech University in Lubbock brushed aside the suggestion which listed watching television as one of the possible causes of ADHD. The researchers also pointed out that ADHD has been around way before children had television to watch.

It seems that more studies need to be conducted before a definitive answer can be accepted by all.
