Living A Diabetic Life

By The Herb Doctor at 05/12/08 06:59
My mom has diabetes. My brother has diabetes. One of my sisters is diabetic too! We are 6 in the family and 3 of us has acquired the disease. Its very ironic that for a diabetic family, we still own a stake on a sugar cane factory.

I have been very vocal on how hard it is living with half of your family with diabetes. But people who knows me knew that even once, I never complained about it. In fact, I have learned my way to live with it, harmoniously.

I was the youngest in my immediate family. And although I am very fortunate to have never acquired it, I am still as cautious as anyone who wanted diabetes out of their lives.

The disease runs in the family. Now you got the idea its not because of the sugars that we do for a living. Actually, you can never find any sugar (sugar canes) based products in our house. We use sweeteners. I have also learned to despise any soft drinks in the market. That's why Coca Cola and Pepsi do not profit from me. My mom is insulin dependent for almost 10 years while my siblings are not. They maintain a diet that really amazes me. They eat foods almost everyday that is the same day by day and never grew tired of eating it. Maybe that's the consequences you have to face having that silent killer.

Though my family can afford medical treatments they usually turn down any proposals alike. They never wanted any surgical operations, taking chemically based medication. They also do not like the idea of facing the scary doctors regularly. But if you have to ask me, I would like those idea. But I do not hold their minds, so I must abide to my elders.

Instead, my family members who has diabetes rely on herbal medicines. In Asia, particularly in the Philippines, bitter melon or locally known as Ampalaya is the most famous remedy for diabetes. It is a green bitter vegetable that reduces the glucose content of the body thus reducing the risk of diabetes. Nowadays, it is packed manufactured as tablets and sometimes also comes in teas. However, there is a very limited scientific claims about it.

Living in a family with diabetes is never really easy. But achieving perfect sync with the rules that results for a healthier day to day outcome is always an achievement I always be proud of.

Dealing With Paranoia

By Dr. Boolittle at 05/06/08 03:26
There are people who just can't stop expressing and showing their fear for something and showing excessive anxiety. Most of these people do not really know they are actually undergoing paranoia.

Paranoia is medically explained as the process of a disturbed thought. It may mean something like delusional to many and cannot be cured, but it can actually be prevented, sad to say, its something hard to control and therefore incurable for it only occur in ones mind.

I have had dealings with people having paranoia attacks when I visit hospitals and see patients from horrific accidents. Patients with the attacks scream like theres no tomorrow. They shout at every person they see and after a while, they will just crumple their body on one corner hiding their face and occasionally looking at the doctors faces. They look very scared. You can see how irritatedly they react whenever someone touches them.

Paranoia can be prevented. But you have to help yourself before it works. You have to convince your self that fear is non existent and it is only in your mind. Stop thinking of bad situations, bad memories or experiences. If there is a persistent dream or something like an apparition showing in your sleep, then try praying before you sleep. If you are not a believer, well, try believing in the idea of Supreme God. At least that helps you boost your confidence that there's someone who can protect you where you are at rest.

Seeking professionals dealing with the said problem is also a great advise. Always think that if you can't solve your own problem, there's always someone you can go and lean on. Say your problem. Open up. Speak everything about what you are thinking. Your fears, your happy moments, everything.

Self introspection and self reflection is the key to a healthy mind. Think positively and learn to control your cognition. Afterall, you are the ruler of your mind, you are higher than your brain, and you make your own thoughts. Control it and relax.

It's all in your mind. Its all in how you control it.

Starvation and Malnutrition: The Endless War

By Dr. Boolittle at 05/05/08 23:32
For more than a century, men have been developing the rich agricultural lands as business districts and industrializing them. Alongside with these developments, the number of population in the world rapidly increased. Alas, resulting to inadequate supply of food and nutrients especially for the ill-drawn countries.

Malnutrition accounts more than 50% of the cause of death each year. There are about 70 million deaths recorded annually and more than 35 million of these is due to malnutrition.

Watch this video documentary that discusses the problem.

YouTube Video

India homes the largest number of undernourished people in the world trailing China to second. They are both huge countries, and they both have huge populations as well. These are both promising lands for development and economic stability but they will not achieve the peak of success not until they eradicate hunger and malnutrition from their beloved lands. However, the most severe cases can be found in Africa where countries are still engulfed by war and terror.

The whole continent is literally suffering from grave malnutrition with the exemption of countries such as Egypt and South Africa.

For more than a century, we have seen how this threat eliminated millions of lives. And for more centuries, we can see more of these people dying. The help these people are getting is just not enough. And we need to act now.

Counselling For Mental Stabilization

By Dr. Boolittle at 05/02/08 20:11
Counseling is one of the many processes used in modern medicine. Even though there is no particular therapeutic claims, modern medicine suggest that some illnesses are rooter mentally. Its only in our brain and thus, it can only be cured by our brain as well.

Voicing out or letting the patient talk and tell tales about his life or about himself is a method used in counseling. The only person who can exactly say about his problem is himself alone. So to locate the problem, it must come from the person who is undergoing counseling.

But let us clear ourselves from the thought that only who has mental illnesses or retardation or autistics are the ones who undergo counseling. Its a big no no. In fact, I have myself undergone a counseling. Not that I'm crazy! Ha ha! But because I need it to calm myself. I need it to stabilize my mental processes. I went to a counseling program for 3 days when my grandpa died. I grew with my grandfather so when he died, I felt devastated and I thought I do not want to move on with my life. Fortunately, the counseling helped me a lot and even made me better.

Counseling is also used for military men before they are put to duty or sent to war. This is done to keep the mental health of soldiers healthy. So as to provide encouragement and orientation as well. All the doubts and fears are casted out. They must always remain calm at any cost. Erratic behavior may cause bad things not for only for them but for the whole troop.

The main target of counseling is to keep the mental health healthy and keeping the person calm and in line with his goals. And I believe that this procedure really helped people cope with their stress and depressions as well. Its really an effective way to make a person keep his sanity in tact.
