What causes back pain?

One of the most common causes of back pain is injury, which can result from sports, manual labor or lifting something heavy. Auto accidents also can cause back pain due to strained muscles, tendons and ligaments. Another cause is a slipped or herniated disk. The disk that provides cushioning between each vertebra slides toward the Spinal Canal and presses on nerves can cause severe pain through nerves.

Diagnosis: Doctors can diagnose back pain by taking a physical exam and check the patients medical history. MRI will help for a detail diagnosis for this problem.

Treatment: For injury caused back pain chiropractic adjustment, physical therapy usually aggravate the problem. Dr. David Peng uses his family secrete recipe herbal patch, which can heal injured tissues, tendons, muscles and ligaments, once the treatments are finished the patient does not need any more follow-up therapy.

For herniated disk, spinal decompression is an effective treatment, but if the traction machine is too strong it will cause damage to the spine and aggravate the pain.

Chiropractic service can be helpful for this back pain, but the treatment usually only lasts for several days, and the patient will end up having to see the chiropractor regularly for many years. Dr. David Peng uses Acupuncture to treat the symptoms such as scoliosis, pain in the thigh and calf, numbness at toes, and uses an herbal patch to treat the back, which is the root of the problem. The herbal medicine is a natural anti-inflammatory medicine, which can reduce the swelling and inflammation of local tissues in order to make more space for nerves, after acupuncture therapy the pressure of the nerves will lessen and the symptoms will be relieved in a short period of time. Prevention: Avoid standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time, stop every hour or so to walk around. Do not wear high-heeled shoes. Do not lift objects that are too heavy for you.

What Causes Gout?

Gout is the result of excess uric acid. This excess uric acid then leads to the formation of crystals in a joint, and it causes pain and inflammation.

Diagnosis: Dr. Peng can diagnose gout based on the symptoms and on a physical examination of the joints to look for swelling and restricted range of motion. Blood tests can reveal high levels of uric acid, but high levels are found in only fifty percent of the people suffering from gout.

Treatment: Our clinic uses a gout herbal patch, applied on the painful joint and wrapped with a bandage. The herbal patch needs to be changed every 24 hours, usually 2 to 3 days. The swelling and pain will reduce dramatically. The patient also needs an internal herbal tea to drink in order to flush the acid out from their body, usually we will give the patient one herbal tea to drink per week.

Prevention: Dieting correctly is very important to prevent gout. Avoiding foods high in purines and moderating alcohol consumption can prevent gout from developing. Food like asparagus, organ meat, sardines, shrimp, crab, lobster, and mushrooms are high in purines, which can lead to uric acid build-up in the blood and cause gout. In the years of my practice I find that the above food cause and built-up in uric acid, but also beef, chicken and other meats can cause gout too.

The best way to prevent gout from happening again is to consume more vegetables less meat in the patients diet and do some exercise; exercise can help the kidney function better and sweat also helps to reduce the high levels of uric acid.

What Causes Whiplash / Neck Pain?

A sudden force that thrusts the head back and forth in a whip-like motion (acceleration- decleration motion) can injure the bones, muscles, disks, ligaments, and nerves.

Acceleration - Deceleration cervical injuries commonly known as whiplash, neck injuries are very often seen in car accidents, result from sharp hyperflextension and hyperextension that damages muscle, ligaments, disks and nerve tissues.

Symptoms: Severe neck pain, if the injury is mild the pain may delayed 12 to 24 hours. Dizziness, gait disturbances. Vomiting. Headache, nuchal rigidity. Rigidity or numbness in the arms. Treatment: Our clinic uses a new injury herbal patch that is applied on the neck area, and a bandage to keep the medicine applied. In this case do not use any massage therapy or Chiropractic treatment. Bed rest will help to speed the recovery of injury, Physical Therapy may also aggravate the problem, Do not do any exercise at this time.

Acupuncture may relieve some pain but we do not choose the point of the neck area to avoid discomfort from needles. X-ray's are recommended after injury especially if the patient noted some severe pain right after injury, or if the symptoms are not getting better in a week.

What is Osteoporosis?

Osteoporosis is a metabolic disease in which the structure of bone tissue breaks down, leaving bones thin and brittle. As part of the natural lifecycle of bone, old bone tissue is continuously being absorbed and a new bone is formed until the age of thirty. Bone mass increases because new bone forms faster than old bone breaks down. After thirty, the rate of new bone formation gradually declines, leading to overall loss of bone mass.

What Causes Osteoporosis? Aging is the major cause of osteoporosis; it is more common in women than in men because of the production of estrogen, a female sex hormone. This helps supply bones with calcium, a mineral that is essential for new bone formation. The danger is especially high in woman who experience early menopause.

Diagnosis: Osteoporosis is most often diagnosed with dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) which measures the mineral content of bone- an indicator of its density and strength. Women should start having routine bone density tests by age of sixty or earlier if they have family history of osteoporosis.

Treatment: I use a secret family recipe- extract calcium from oyster shell powder and pearl powder to form pearl calcium, a concentrated all natural calcium dietary supplement, which can increase new bone cells to form much faster than people who do not take pearl calcium. Because pearl calcium is all natural and 100 percent dissolvable, the body will absorb and digest much faster.

During many years of practice I often heard patients tell me that they take calcium for many years but they have not noticed any difference, but once they take pearl calcium only several months they can feel calcium work in their body. For example: the patients will feel their knees stronger than before, hair loss is decreased, nails grow faster and stronger, and the quality of sleep is increased. That is the reason why 95 percent of my pearl calcium consumer become a regular customer.

Prevention: Exercise play an important role of new bone mass forming. Walking, cycling, dancing, and swimming are heavily encouraged. I recommend doing these activities at least three to four times per week. Eating a balanced diet with pearl calcium can provide daily vitamins and calcium need for body. Good sources of calcium from food are low-fat milk or yogurt, tofu, leafy green vegetables, sardines and salmon with bones, and cereals. If you have frequent muscle cramps, cut back on caffeine and alcohol use. Proven techniques to control emotional stress are meditation, yoga, and tai chi

What causes rotator cuff tendinitis?

Rotator cuff tendinitis is a tearing and swelling of the rotator cuff. These tendons are often injured in sports that require the arm to be moved over the head repeatedly, such as lifting heavy weights over the shoulder, swimming freestyle, butterfly or pitching in baseball. Repeatedly moving the arm over the head causes the top of the arm bone to rub against part of the shoulder joint and its tendons, tearing individual fibers.

Symptoms: Shoulder pain is the main symptom. Initially, the pain occurs only during activities that require lifting the arm over the head and forcibly bring it forward. Later, pain can occur even when the arm is moved forward to shake hands. Usually pushing objects away is painful, but pushing them toward the body is not.

Diagnosis: Dr Peng diagnosis the problem by asking the patient his/her injury history and then checks specific movements such as raising the arm and then raising the arm against force to find pain or soreness spots. MRI can detect how the tendon tears.

Treatment: Dr Peng’s family herbal patch is applied on injured shoulder, and it can reduce the swelling, pain, and tendon inflammation. The treatment will be three times a week for three to six weeks. Strengthening exercise or physical therapy may cause more swelling and aggravate the problem.

Prevention: Warm up before exercise or any physical activities. Avoid repeated movements for long period of time. Avoid lifting objects too heavy for yourself.

What causes muscle sprains?

Strains occur with sports, accidents and other physical activities. They are especially common to see as falls or twisting an ankle while walking or contact sports such as football, basketball, and tennis. Back and abdominal muscle strain often result from lifting heavy objects.

Muscle pain has many varied causes including Overuse injury. Infections such as flu, malaria, fibromyalgia. Arthritis. Neuromuscular disorders. Electrolyte imbalances, such as a deficiency of calcium or potassium. Emotional Stress. Drugs. Diagnosis: If the pain is related to an injury, Dr. Peng can determine by a physical exam, the mobility of a joint, the strength of a muscle, and the presence of swelling or bruising. X-rays may be taken if the doctor suspects a fracture or broken bone. If the pain is caused by an infection or other illness, a blood test is needed to diagnose.

Treatment: For a new injury our clinic uses a new injury herbal patch. Our new injury herbal patch stops the internal bleeding quicker, reduces the swelling, and also helps blood flow to injured tissues. The patient will experience the swelling go down and the pain will be reduced with one or two treatments. Avoid physical activities; this will help to speed healing.

For the chronic pain caused by Arthritis, Neuromuscular disorders and emotional stress, Acupuncture works very good for it. Our clinic also provides heat treatment along with herbal alcohol. Arthritis will need several months or longer to be treated.

Prevention: To reduce the risk of injury, warm up before engaging in sports and other physical activities. Wear comfortable shoes and avoid high heels, this can reduce the risk of twisting an ankle or falling.

Tendonitis and Bursitis

Tendonitis is an inflammation of tendon or small tear in a tendon – the fibrous tissue that connects muscles to bones. Bursitis is an inflammation of the bursa – sacs of fluid around the joint that cushion the muscle, bone and ligaments from fraction when the join moves.

Cause: Both conditions often occur with repetitive physical activity, as is common with sports such as tennis, swimming, golf and baseball as well as manual labor. Tendonitis can also be caused by infections such as gonorrhea and rheumatoid arthritis.

Diagnosis: Dr. Peng diagnoses by reviewing a patients medical history evaluating their symptoms and examining the affected area, questions about sports and other physical activities.

Treatment: For these two problems Dr. Peng is been using the Chinese herb patch to treat them. The anti inflammatory herb patch can reduce the swelling and pain in one or two treatments. It is very important for this treatment to avoid any physical activities.

Prevention:

Avoid tendonitis by warming up before exercising; avoid high intensity of an exercise routine because doing so can irritate or tear the tendons. Comfortable athletic shoes can help prevent tendonitis of the Achilles tendon and knees. To prevent bursitis, avoid moving the same joint over and over again for prolonged period of time Use protective gear when engaging in manual work and other activities that put ongoing pressure on a joint, for example, wear knee pads while working in the garden.
